CS373 Fall 2021: Albert C. Trevino

What did you do this past week?

This past week, I spent most of my off time at rehearsal for The Longhorn Band, in preparation for this weeks football game.

What’s in your way?

Nothing too big is in my way right now. I think that one big thing that I’ve had trouble with in the past was procrastination. I feel pretty motivated this semester which is a HUGE change from the previous two semesters. I just need to keep this momentum going through my online classes!

What will you do next week?

Next week is when my initial assignments are becoming due. So my focus will be on getting those done and getting ready for the next football game on Saturday.

If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #2: Makefile?

Makefiles always seem extremely complicated and can be intimidating. But once they’re broken down and you can really understand what each line is meant to do, makefiles reveal to be a great tool to use for projects.

What was your experience of assertions, unit tests, and coverage?

At first, assertions seemed a bit silly. I felt like having an assertion to check if an incrementing variable is greater than zero, at the end of a function, was useless. But after using them these past few semesters, they are extremely useful. I think we can all agree that programs work in very unexplained ways sometimes and assertions can help demystify them.

What made you happy this week?

The Longhorn Band hasn’t been able to attend a football game in almost two years, so this weekend was SO much fun being able to finally do something that I’ve missed greatly.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week is to take projects a few steps at a time. Trying to finish them in one sitting has been my downfall at times, but with ample time and working piece by piece, projects become easier to work on and keeps the motivation flowing.
