CS373 Fall 2021: Albert C. Trevino
What did you do this past week?
This past week I started on the Collatz project and wrote a paper for a different class. Along with this, I had rehearsal for Longhorn Band and was able to go to the football game in Arkansas this weekend. That was a ton of fun, even though it wasn’t the desired outcome. I haven’t had too much time for any activities other than school and band, but that’s definitely partially my fault.
What’s in your way?
The only thing that’s currently in my way is just that I haven’t been able to get great sleep. My sleep schedule has been a little wacky this week and is something that I need to fix because it gets in the way of my motivation and takes time away from me needing to get work done. I will work on this and I hope to have a much better week this week.
What will you do next week?
This week I plan on turning in the Collatz project and get some small homework assignments done. I don’t have too much due this week, but I plan on at least starting a project for another class that is due in a couple weeks. I will continue to attend LHB rehearsals and I’m excited for our second home game this weekend.
If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #3: Continuous Integration?
I have had a little bit of experience with CI but not enough in aspects outside of school work. The article helped me understand more about why it is so important, and helped ease some fears and questions I’ve had about ruining project builds. I feel like I definitely understand CI more and I realize that it’s not as complicated as it sounds when explained.
What was your experience of IsPrime and Collatz optimizations?
The IsPrime activity went well for my group and I, we were able to understand it and get it done quickly and provided a stepping stone into the next in class assignments. The collatz optimizations are really interesting and made me look at simple math in different ways. Implementing a cache sounded a lot harder than it actually was, and it was really satisfying to see the optimizations work out.
What made you happy this week?
Being able to travel for a little bit with my friends and go watch our football team made me pretty happy. I had a really good time and it was a nice break away from a stressful week. It’s moments like these that make me grateful for my opportunities and I cherish as many of these moments as I can before I graduate.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
When trying to understand docker more, I came across this small cheat sheet for some basic commands that helped me use docker more efficiently and understand the instructions that professor Downing gave us.
