What did you do this past week?

This past week, I finished the Collatz project as well as start on a project for another class. This week was very chaotic and I hardly had time to myself. Aside from the amount of homework that I had, I had a lot of social activities that I had to attend for The Longhorn Band. Along with the practice for this weekend’s game, my nights were very long and I didn’t get much sleep, but hopefully I can catch up this week.

What’s in your way?

I’ve been doing okay these past few days. I feel like procrastination is still a problem that I still struggle with but I feel like I’m definitely getting a lot better at controlling it. I always feel like I have more time than I actually do, and I’ve sometimes missed some deadlines. But I have become more organized, and it has helped me a lot.

What will you do next week?

Next week will be pretty similar to the previous week. I have a project due this week for another class so that will be where most of my time goes to. I also joined an Intramural Softball team that is a part of LHB called the LHBatters. We have our first game on Wednesday and I’m looking forward to that. We have another home football game this week so the rehearsal stress will be similar to last week.

If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #4: What Happens to Us?

It’s so disheartening to hear stories and anecdotes about how women feel and are treating in the CS workplace. I will never understand what women go through. It really does make my blood boil and I cannot imagine every saying or doing some of the things explained. I will never turn my eye to misconduct, and I encourage everyone to say something, always.

What was your experience of Collatz, exceptions, and types?

Taking Object Oriented Programming last semester, I did have a little bit of a head start, I won’t lie, but I still redid the project, especially since it was in a different language. It made me understand the assignment even more and I really enjoyed working on it. As for exceptions and types, I did really well on the quizzes and I think professor Downing did a great job explaining it and he made great notes.

What made you happy this week?

We had our first practices for the LHBatters which was a ton of fun. Playing softball/baseball gain made me feel like I was a bit younger, and spending that time with good friends made it to be such a great time. UT also won the football game this weekend, so that made the game experience so much better than last week. It was definitely some of the most fun I’ve had at a football game.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Making use of the Makefile made my life so much more efficient. I definitely did most of those commands manually the first time I worked on this project but actually using the make commands made everything so much quicker.
