What did you do this past week?

The early week was spent finishing up two assignments that I had due on Tuesday. They didn’t take too much time but I’m finding it harder and harder to start on some work. Some senioritis is kicking in. The latter part of the week was spent doing a ton of things for Longhorn Band. Being a section leader can be stressful sometimes trying to organize our new shirts and rehearsals can be stressful. My Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights are always booked for rehearsals and meetings. Not to mention my Saturdays being completely full for the games. I will say tho, I am having a great time, especially since last year was basically non-existent.

What’s in your way?

Like I mentioned, some senioritis is definitely kicking in. It’s not TOO bad, but my motivation is definitely lacking a bit. I’m determined to not let it get in the way of project two and the following projects. Other than that, I’m being more active and I’m feeling pretty good. A lot better than previous weeks for sure.

What will you do next week?

This next week will be spent coding A LOT. I have two projects due on Monday the 4th, so I really need to be on top of my game and make some good use of my time. My band responsibilities stay the same so I’m looking forward to spending more time with my friends and playing some cool beats.

If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #5: Pair Programming?

I’ve read Pair Programming a few times before in the past and everything still holds true. I remember reading this for the first time my first year and not knowing what to expect when programming with other people. As I’ve had to work with more and more people over the years, I’ve always kept the techniques, outlined in the read, in my mind and they have helped me and my partners be successful with our work. It’s insane how much more common it is for someone else to catch your mistakes when you’re the one driving.

What was your experience of Python’s object model, list, tuple, set, dict, and iterators?

I think I did okay this week when understanding these concepts. I can definitely feel myself understanding python more, and I’m excited to start programming more using it. The object model was a bit confusing at first but the quizzes definitely helped me and Professor Downing always does a great job explaining the concepts to their fullest.

What made you happy this week?

Playing my first IM softball game was SO much fun. I felt like I was 14 again, destroying my opponents. LHB has a team that I’m a part of and were able to win 10–3. I made some great plays at first base and I was so happy when I got home. It really made my week and was a good stress reliever, getting away from school for a few hours.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip-of-the-week is to check out how to actually use the API’s we’ve been finding for our proposals. I haven’t really worked with API’s before so It definitely really helped me understand what I need to be looking for and what it really means to use them.
