CS373 Fall 2021: Albert C. Trevino Blog #07
What did you do this past week?
This past week, a ton of time was devoted into Phase 1 of the project. I was able to correctly implement my share of the project even though it wasn’t in the time frame that I had originally intended. But it’s okay, I had an exam that I had to study for a bit during the week so that held me back a little bit. I was very happy with how it turned out and my group mates are awesome. I’m excited to start on Phase 2.
What’s in your way?
I think that procrastination is still something that’s in my way, I’m sorry for reiterating this. It is true though, I’ve been having a hard time focusing on my tasks at hand and I’ve really put my social life ahead of my school life this semester. Even though I don’t think that that’s a horrible thing, I still need to allocate my time better. I think for most of us in my group, we did take a little longer implementing than we expected/wanted to. Everything was okay, and I don’t blame them at all. Everyone worked together and we were able to turn it in with some time to spare.
What will you do next week?
This next week, I will be spending some time studying for an exam I have on Tuesday, but other than that, It will be spent towards implementing the begging of Phase 2. I think that this project will be a lot more time consuming than the other so far, so I need to start a little bit early than last time. I plan on seeing some family this weekend at the football game, since it is family weekend for the band. This weeks game is at 11 a.m. which is really unfortunate since I can’t do the normal activities we usually do during family weekend since it will be so early in the morning.
If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #7: Open-Closed Principle?
The open-closed principle is something I am familiar with as it has been enforced previously in OOP. This concept of abstraction has definitely stuck with me through that class and into this one. I really recognize how important it is to close classes as best and smart as you can. It really helps as projects get larger.
What was your experience of operators, and iteration?
I think I have a pretty decent understanding of operators and iteration. I did miss Friday’s lecture so I will have to go back and review some notes for anything I might have missed. There are some confusing points about operators that I think are just niche implementations of Python.
What made you happy this week?
This week I was happy that we were able to complete Project 2 and I think we were really successful. I was also able to go to the OU game this weekend. Even though the outcome wasn’t great, I will say that that first half of the game was some of the most fun I’ve had in college so far.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My pick-of-the-week is probably to use PostgreSQL. It is the only database manager that I have experience with and I think that it flows pretty well. I’m not the biggest fan of SQL in general but I think PostgreSQL is the way to go.
